One key, two engines.

The drive technology of the Volvo XC40 T5 Twin Engine* combines a gasoline engine with turbo- and compressor-charging with an electric motor. Due to its highly efficient Plug-in Hybrid technology, it convinces with an overall performance of 262 hp/192 kW at a consumption of mere 1,7 l/100 km in combined test cycle.

The Volvo TWIN ENGINE models with Plug-in Hybrid technology prove that environmental awareness and performance orientation are not contradictory and enable you to use the advantages of both drive systems flexibly, depending on your driving situation and desire, using three driving modes.

HYBRID mode

In HYBRID mode, both types of drive are used in a complementary way: Depending on the driving situation, the electric motor and petrol engine are added as needed or develop their power in parallel - for an optimum balance of power and efficiency with maximum comfort.

PURE mode

If you select the PURE mode, you are on the road in a completely electric and emission-free manner - at speeds of up to 205 km / h ** and a range of up to 54 kilometers *** depending on the model. So you have plenty of capacity for your everyday trips with fully charged battery. When the charge is used up, the petrol engine automatically switches on.

POWER mode

With the POWER mode you can enjoy breathtaking driving fun at the touch of a button. Combustion engine and electric motor jointly develop their performance potential of up to 192 kW (262 hp) *. Steering, transmission and brakes are already set to sporty driving.

Is the hybrid model of the Volvo XC40 more expensive to maintain?
The maintenance costs are about as high as the D4 Geartronic model with diesel engine. One of the advantages of electric motors is their freedom from maintenance.
How far can I go with the batteries in electrical operation?
In electric mode, you can drive a distance of about 54 km (top speed 205 km / h). Depending on the driving style, the course of the road and the outside temperatures (very cold or very warm), the range can vary considerably.
Which workshop can I contact for repairs to the bodywork?
Repairs to the bodywork may require the removal of the high-voltage battery, which may only be carried out by personnel trained to carry out this work in accordance with the applicable regulations. Volvo authorized repair shops meet the above requirements.
Can my vehicle be repaired on-site in the event of a breakdown or does it have to be repaired in a Volvo workshop?
Of course, that depends on the nature of the problem. Just as it applies to other vehicles, Volvo Assistance also requires that the vehicle be towed to a workshop and not be repaired on the road, unless the vehicle is stationary and not due to a technical problem (such as a flat tire) or breakdown (eg lack of fuel). For some repairs it may be necessary to remove the high-voltage battery, which may only be carried out by personnel trained to carry out this work in accordance with the applicable regulations. Volvo authorized repair shops meet the above requirements.
How long is the life of the battery?
The battery lasts for medium use over the entire life of the vehicle (about 15 years). It can be recharged up to 9,000 times (complete charge and discharge cycles). The battery is also guaranteed for 5 years or 150,000 km.
Is the XC40 Twin Engine a safe vehicle?
All models, including electric ones, must comply with Volvo safety standards. With the highest score ever achieved for an electric car in a Euro NCAP safety test, the Volvo XC90 Twin Engine has already demonstrated that.
Can the batteries catch fire in an accident?
The Volvo electric vehicles are thoroughly tested. A situation of this kind has never occurred and is not expected. The batteries of an electric vehicle will not ignite if they are not exposed to particularly severe shocks.
Are there any restrictions regarding the safety of parking in closed spaces?
No, there is no restriction.
How much does charging the XC40 hybrid with electrical energy cost?
Since tariffs vary by provider, time of charge and kW consumption, it is difficult to determine the exact cost. As a guideline, you could set 0.20 CHF / kWh, which for an XC40 Twin Engine amounts about CHF 1.40 for a distance of 40 km.
